For the first time ever, Iraq will be participating in the Miss Earth contest this October in Philippines. 21 year old Kurdish beauty from Sulaymaniyah, Susan Amer Sulaimani, has been selected by Miss Iraq Organization to represent the nation at the international contest.

Susan is a 3rd year software engineering student at the Al-Mansour University and is currently residing in Baghdad due to her father’s occupation. She is a professional stylist and runs her own beauty salon "Eva”. As a runner-up, she was awarded the title of "Mesopotamian Princess” last December in Miss Iraq pageant which was the country’s first national beauty contest in four decades.

Susan, who is an ethnic Kurd, is delighted about her participation and hopes that this will send a message of national unity and peace both inside Iraq and to all the world. The official national costume of Iraq to be worn at the international pageant has been designed by Iraqi Fashion House at the Ministry of Culture.

Founded in 2001 by Carousel Productions Inc., the MISS EARTH Pageant is an International Environmental Event channeling the beauty pageant entertainment industry as an effective tool to promote environmental awareness.

The 16th edition of Miss Earth will begin on 8th October in Manila. The contestants will be taking part in environmental activities across the country from Manila in the north to Davao in the south.
The grand finale of Miss Earth 2016 is slated for Saturday, 29th October, at the MOA Arena in Manila, with local and international live telecast at 7:00 pm (Philippines Time).

Founded in 1972, Miss Iraq is the only official national beauty pageant of Iraq recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism & Antiquities of Iraq.
